project overview

project overview

The main challenge was creating a product that balanced the traditional appeal of ancient Indian astrology with a modern, easy-to-navigate digital interface. Additionally, the product needed to launch in Jan 2023 so that it could address the demand of people looking for new year predictions and act as a lead magnate for their main product to follow. Key questions: 1. How do we make ancient astrology accessible and appealing to a digital audience? 2. How can we launch it within the decided timeline, since demand of people starts skyrocketing to see predictions at the start of a new year? 3. How do we build a product that serves both the immediate and long-term business goal, such as user acquisition?

research

research

To inform our design, we conducted both qualitative and quantitative research, focusing on two main groups: 1. Astrology Enthusiasts: Interviews and surveys helped us understand what this group sought in astrological insights. Their main interests included accuracy, the depth of predictions, and ease of use in finding relevant information. 2. Casual Users: This group viewed astrology as occasional entertainment. They wanted a simple, streamlined experience where they could quickly find predictions and understand what Melooha could offer them without a steep learning curve. Key Findings: 1. Clarity and Simplicity: Users wanted clean, accessible reports that highlighted key predictions without overwhelming them with jargon. 2. User Flow: Most users wanted to explore daily or weekly predictions first before considering longer-term predictions (quarterly and yearly), making an incremental value approach essential for user retention.

For making it simple for the users and faster to build for Melooha developers, I streamlined the whole process of revealing a user's prediction to a simple and clean 3 screen UI. To build user trust a decision was made that we won't ask for any personal user information before delivering the value and will keep it completely optional even afterwards.

To make it faster for the user and deliver a more satisfying experience an easy combination of dropdowns and scrollable tabs(for mobile) was implemented so that a user irrespective of device type could easily update and change options without having to go back a user could from a versatile menu: 1. Change the moon sign 2. Switch between daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly predictions 3. Switch between interested parts of the prediction like finance, relationship, etc.

Designing Melooha required a balanced approach to address both the user’s needs for simplicity and trust and the business’s goals of user aquisition and engagement. By focusing on a clear, user-centered design that respects the cultural depth of Indian astrology while modernizing it for digital users, Melooha achieved a product that felt both innovative and timeless. The project underscored the importance of a well-researched, iterative design process in meeting user needs and exceeding business goals.
